Abstract
This study investigated library anxiety as determinants of effective library use among Higher National Diploma (HND) students in polytechnic libraries in Osun State. The study sought to identify purposes of library use, ascertain levels of library anxiety on effective library use. A descriptive survey design was adopted; data were collected from 260 HND students selected through a multi-stage sampling procedure using a structured questionnaire with demonstrated reliability. Findings revealed that while students accessed a range of print and electronic resources, their frequency and depth of use were constrained by varying degrees of library anxiety. The study concludes that strengthening information literacy instruction and implementing anxiety-reduction strategies are crucial for enhancing library utilisation among HND students. Recommendations include targeted user education, improved support services, and environment-focused interventions to promote confident and sustained library engagement.
